In adversity look for the positive! I've found my purpose
Ok, it's done - the unthinkable has happened. The milk has spilled.
There have been many times throughout my career that the implausible occurred. Situations turned and all of a sudden the old rules no longer applied.
For all of us, this is what is happening now. We can go and complain and ask why? or we can get stuck into this new world.
I'm a Bernie Sanders supporter. I followed him right through the election. In the same way as Donald Trump moved so many disaffected people on the right, Bernie Sanders did so on the left. What's really interesting is that people are now voting properly - they are no longer puppets. They are being moved to vote.
The first good piece of news is that TTIP now looks dead in the water. This is good news for all true Europeans. The second positive is that by the law of averages and the fact that Trump is 70 years old, it is more likely that his term will be a success ;). I'd rather be lucky then brilliant.
Finally the 3rd positive is that for those of you out there that want to make change happen then the time is now. For all movements, the time is now. I'm starting today.
I have spent 10 years in an industry which doesn't value its staff. An industry which is full of young bright students who are rarely listened to or developed. Managers and full time staff are on a merry-go-round which they only step off to sleep. Great staff reject promotion as there is only stress and less pay at higher levels. Training and development are non existent. If there is training, it's only to make them more efficient - not to empower them, to develop their individual talents or to help them in their careers. Bar and restaurant staff are the most productive staff you will find, yet the industry only develops them to DO... not to THINK.
That is now my purpose. To help empower aspiring Bar and Restaurant staff to understand that they can develop and apply their minds and individual talents to their job. By doing so they not only increase their productivity but also open up new horizons for themselves - new careers and opportunities.
Of course the establishment won't like it. The owners and established managers don't like any change to the status quo. Imagine trusting your staff to think? how outrageous is that.
Outrageous... Outlier... whatever they want to call me - I'm going to take this opportunity to commit to this purpose. To achieve the only type of result that matters - unleashing human potential.
